The Friends’ Review of the Year and Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday 25th May from 7-8pm. This will again be an online event, because of the uncertainty around Covid restrictions. A Zoom link will be sent nearer the time.
This year’s meeting will include a presentation from Rob May, Head Gardener, who will speak about the horticulture of Dulwich Park, the strains during Covid and future plans. There will be time for Q&A after his talk.
Yasmin Hashmi has resigned as a committee member – we thank Yasmin for her enthusiastic support. The remaining members of the committee have agreed to stand for re-election – including Jill Gauntlett, who was co-opted during the year (see her piece below). They are:
Emily Montague – Chair
Jill Gauntlett – Vice-chair
Stephen Henden – Treasurer
Neil Ellis – membership
Stella Plumbridge – website
In view of changes made to the constitution in 2013 (time limits to roles), the consent of the AGM is required for Emily to continue as Chair. Jill has already indicated that she is willing to stand as Chair next year.
As many of you will know, Stephen and Neil have moved away from London, but they have kindly agreed to maintain their roles for this year.
If you would like to stand for election or have an item of business, please contact the Chair, Emily Montague, on 07800 765338 as soon as possible and in any event well in advance of the meeting. We recommend prospective committee members first attend one or two committee meetings before being invited to become formal members of the committee.
Why become a Committee member? Jill Gauntlett writes…
I have lived near Dulwich Park for almost 30 years so have always been a frequent visitor. A combination of factors led me to volunteer to get more involved with what the lovely people at Dulwich Park Friends do. Having some more time and especially during the lock down months, I realised that it would be nice to “do my bit” and join the DPF committee.
Jobs during my time as a DPF volunteer have included:
- Helping to put together and sell our first calendar featuring pictures from other park lovers- we are doing another this year so please share your pics!
- Joining Tend the Park (horticultural) and litter picking sessions – the latter a small gesture to park staff but very rewarding
- Helping with the Dulwich Park Fair – enjoyed the dog show most!
There are lots of jobs to do and the group is very inclusive so always happy to hear new ideas and welcome committed new joiners.
I have met some great people who care about the park (especially the Southwark Council and idverde teams) and we all realise how important it’s been to people during the pandemic.
