As regulars will know, our Tend the Park sessions usually take place on the first Saturday of the month. However, for practical reasons, our first post-Covid session will take place on the second Saturday, 12th September from 10am-1pm. We will be working under the supervision of Head Gardener Rob May to help clear areas of thistles around the park that will spread even more if not uprooted now.
Lest you think this a losing battle, we undertook a similar initiative for the Village copse and it is now thistle-free (give or take the odd rogue invader). As we might clear brambles too, long-sleeved tops and long trousers are recommended. Rob has some thick gloves, but bring your own if you like. We will obviously not gather in a close group when working, for Covid reasons – bring your own face mask/hand gel.
Meet outside the café at 10am – see the events page for more details.
Sessions will then be 3rd October and 7th November, when we will be planting new stock we’ll buy with some of the grant funds from Southwark Council’s Cleaner, Greener, Safer initiative.
