We have received this recent update of the flood alleviation works from the contractors MGJV.
‘Whilst we are committed to meeting our deadlines on work yet to be completed we are at the mercy of the weather. In the event of prolonged wet weather conditions, dates may be subject to change. We hope that this will not need to be the case.
We are extremely pleased that the flood alleviation work in this important area of the park has been completed. Installation of new play equipment will continue throughout November and December. Reseeding the designated grass area will begin on 14th November undertaken by Southwark Council’s contractor, Landmark.
To allow the grass seed to become fully established over the winter months, fencing will remain around this area to ensure it is protected.
Installation of new play equipment for the playground will continue until December.
Work involving the installation of an underground water storage tank is now complete. The area will now also be reseeded and protected to ensure the grass thrives and is ready for use.
Francis Peek Centre
Construction of the flood bunds in the Western Lawn area has been completed. Here too, work will now begin to ensure the grass is returned to the same state as it was before our work started.
Southern Carriage Drive
The Drive is due to reopen by 7th November and work is progressing well in order to meet this deadline.
The work on this route was essential in order to raise the level to that of the height of the flood defences.
Western Lawns and Horse Drive
Our work at the site of the second underground water storage tank, which currently involves connecting drainage from the tank to the sewer network, will be completed by 5th December. When our teams have finished, the site will be reseeded and fenced for protection as has been done with our other completed work areas.
Work on the underground water storage tank in Dulwich Park is due to end on 5th December.
The Boating Lake
Work on the footpath by the Boating Lake will be completed by 12th December. As a main route through the park it provides access to the cafe, we will ensure clear signs direct people around our work area. This work is necessary to raise the level of the footpath in line with the flood defences.
All of our work in the park will be completed by 21st November. During the process of this project we have constructed flood defence bunds around the playing fields and play area and to the west of the lake. A wetland meadow and new footpath completing a circular route around the lake has also been constructed.
All that remains now is to ensure that the grass is re-established in the areas we have been working. It will remain protected by fencing to ensure it is given the best chance to thrive during the winter months’.
