Quercus robur ‘fastigiata’ Cypress Oak
Head Gardener Ric Glenn writes: “Dulwich Park’s Cypress Oak is found outside the carriageway, on the right just past the bridge over the rivulet (see pic).

Though commonly called Cypress Oak, this tree is in fact an unusual central European form of the common oak. With its very upright, vertical ‘fasitgiate’ (meaning broom-like) branch structure, it is striking all year round. It is also one of many splendid trees featured in botanist Rosemary Lindsay’s work on the Remarkable Trees of Dulwich. Why not give the tree an admiring pat next time you are passing?”
